Being a product leader isn’t just about strategy and vision—it’s about ensuring your teams have what they need to execute successfully. As a product leader in fintech, my days are a blend of decision-making, problem-solving, and aligning cross-functional teams toward a common goal: delivering a seamless experience.
8:00 AM – Prioritizing for the Day
I start my day reviewing key metrics, teams messages, and emails. Are there any urgent fires? Any updates on critical initiatives? I check my calendar to ensure I’m prepped for the meetings ahead.
9:00 AM – Leadership Check-in
A quick sync with my direct reports—30 product managers and product owners spread across various initiatives. We discuss key priorities, ongoing challenges, and where they need support. I use this time to unblock teams, escalate issues if needed, and reinforce strategic direction.
10:00 AM – Stakeholder Alignment
Meeting with business stakeholders—sales, customer success, operations, and leadership—to review our latest developments and ensure alignment with company goals. These conversations often revolve around feature adoption, merchant feedback, and how our work impacts revenue and retention.
11:30 AM – Development Progress Review
A deep dive into in-flight product development. I review updates from engineering on active sprints, checking for blockers, risks to deadlines, and any scope adjustments. If a team is stuck, I step in to remove roadblocks or reallocate resources.
1:00 PM – Lunch & Market Research
I use lunch as an opportunity to catch up on industry trends, listen to fintech podcasts, or scan competitor updates. Staying ahead in fintech requires constant learning.
2:00 PM – Cross-Team Collaboration
Meeting with design, marketing, and data teams to ensure our product rollouts are well-supported. Are we positioning new features correctly? Are we tracking the right success metrics? Are there gaps in merchant education?
3:30 PM – Coaching & Career Development
One-on-one meetings with product managers. We discuss their challenges, career growth, and how I can help them succeed. Investing in my team’s growth is just as important as delivering great products.
5:00 PM – Strategy & Planning
I set aside time to think about long-term strategy. What’s next for merchant experience? How do we differentiate further? I refine roadmaps, evaluate new opportunities, and ensure we’re staying ahead of market needs.
6:00 PM – Wrapping Up
Before logging off, I check in on any urgent issues, clear out emails, and jot down key takeaways for tomorrow.
Being a product leader is a constant balancing act—supporting teams, managing stakeholders, and staying focused on the big picture. Every day is different, but the goal remains the same: delivering value to our merchants.
